St Peter’s Cork is located in the heart of Cork City and in the historic centre on North Main Street. One of the oldest streets, North Main Street is home to the oldest standing church in Cork City. The first church on this site was built in 1199. The present building was built in 1788, though the North Porch pre-dates this, having been constructed in 1710. The neo-gothic tower was added in 1840. It was a Church of Ireland Parish Church until 1949 when it was deconsecrated. It was used as a warehouse until 1994 and then restored as part of the Urban Pilot Project. This 18th century church has been restored and is currently being used as a modern heritage and arts exhibition space and an event space. Historian Gerry White will give a talk on FOC: ‘Order, Counterorder and Disorder’: The Cork Brigade of Irish Volunteers and the 1916 Rising’ at 1pm. No booking required.
