CORK LEARNING CITY

Welcome to the 17th Cork Lifelong Learning Festival. Welcome all to 2022 Cork Lifelong Learning Festival. I am honoured as Lord Mayor of Cork and Patron of the Festival to extend a hand of friendship and welcome to all people who will participate in learning activities over the Festival week this year. And as First Citizen I want also to acknowledge and congratulate all of those citizens who work to make the festival happen, by hosting events and encouraging participants to attend, connecting people and inspiring our fellow citizens. This is a festival for everyone – a people’s festival, and it is one that we all can be proud of. It is recognised and admired the world over and it has inspired many other cities to follow this path. As we collectively faced the challenges of Covid-19 the role that schools, colleges,

Fáilte go léir chuig Féile Foghlama Chorcaí 2022. Is mór an onóir dommar Ardmhéara Chorcaí agus mar Phátrún na Féile chun lámh chairdis a leathnú agus fáilte a chur roimh gach duine a ghlacfaidh páirt i ngníomhaíochtaí foghlama le linn sheachtain na Féile i mbliana. Mar Chéad Saoránach Chorcai, ba mhaith liom aitheantas agus comhghairdeas a dhéanamh leis na saoránaigh go léir a oibríonn chun an fhéile a chur i gcrích, trí imeachtaí a óstáil agus rannpháirtithe a spreagadh le freastal orthu, ag nascadh le daoine agus ár gcomhshaoránaigh a spreagadh. Is féile í seo do gach duine – féile daoine, agus is féile í ar féidir linn go léir a bheith bródúil aisti. Aithnítear agus tá meas air ar fud an domhain agus spreag sé go leor cathracha eile chun an cosán seo a leanúint. Agus muid ag tabhairt aghaidh le chéile ar dhúshláin Covid-19 ba ról ríthábhachtach é an ról a bhí ag scoileanna, oideachas coláistí, eagraíochtaí

The connection between the Lord Mayor and the schools of the city is one that dates back over 100 years to Lord Mayor Terence McSwiney, and is a tradition that is unique to our city. It is one of the many links that create such a strong Learning City ‘eco-system’ in Cork, that has lead to international recognition by UNESCO, with Cork featuring as a keynote in the 2019

Is é an nasc idir an tArdmhéara agus scoileanna na cathrach ceann a théann siar thar 100 bliain leis an Ardmhéara Terence McSwiney, agus is traidisiún é atá uathúil dár gcathair. Tá sé ar cheann den nasc a chruthaíonn ‘éiceachóras’ na Cathrach Foghlama chomh láidir sin i gCorcaigh, as ar thug UNESCO aitheantas idirnáisiúnta, le Corcaigh ina bhfuil mar phríomhóráid i gComhdháil Idirnáisiúnta 2019 ar Chathracha Foghlama a dhírigh ar

This built on our Learning City Award in 2015, and on the city’s selection as hosts of the 3rd International Learning City Conference in 2017. It is the people of Cork who make the Festival what it is. CORK LIFELONG LEARNING FESTIVAL MON 4TH - SUN 10TH APRIL

Fèile Foghlama Chorcaì

A chairde, Fáilte romhaibh go léir chuig Féile Foghlama 2022. I am very pleased to welcome you this year’s Lifelong Learning Festival in Cork as it returns as a key event in the city’s learning calendar. Since 2004 Cork Education and Training Board is proud to be a lead partner in the Festival, which has been recognised internationally as a model of best practice. I have seen many great examples of how collaboration between the community, state and private sectors contribute to the experience of lifelong learning for people in Cork. This year the recently launched CETB Cork College of Further Education and Training will host a variety of events in our various campuses, building on the engagement of our programmes, tutors trainers and learners with the Festival over many years. The Lifelong Learning Festival is a unique event, one that has captured the imagination of people both in the city and beyond and continues to grow and develop. Lifelong Learning builds the capacity of us all to adapt to an ever changing society and economy. I want to thank the organising committee, in particular the chairperson Willie McAuliffe, the Learning City co-ordinator Denis Barrett, Siubhán McCarthy the festival co-ordinator and all the people from the voluntary, community, state and private sectors who contribute to this ongoing success in so many ways. Denis Leamy Chief Executive, Cork Education and Training Board

On behalf of all our Cork Learning City partners, welcome to the 2022 Lifelong Learning Festival. After our experiences of the last two years the Festival is such a welcome return - it is an opportunity to celebrate all that is best about our city and the value that we place on education and lifelong learning. The festival is a vitally important expression of our city as a Learning City. It is a festival that is recognised globally, and more importantly locally, as a fantastic annual opportunity for people of all interests, ages and abilities to develop new learning pathways, to celebrate all that’s best in lifelong learning and to connect together. We hope your involvement in the Festival, whether as an event host or as a participant, (or both) is enjoyable and inspiring. Thank you all for making the festival what it is! Willie McAuliffe Co-Chair Cork Learning City and GLLiC Growing Lifelong Learning in Cork “ Cork’s Lifelong Learning Festival is an annual showcase for the joy of celebrating learning opportunities for all. At UIL we very much welcome it’s return this year. – MESSAGE FROM RAÚL VALDES COTERA, UNESCO INSTITUTE FOR LIFELONG LEARNING
