Appendix 5 High Level Goal 5: Safe, Accessible and Resilient Neighbourhoods

5.3 Face to Face consultations In high level and summary form, feedback from face-to-face workshops with those stakeholders relevant to this consultation is provided below. Because feedback was oral rather than written, the emphasis is placed on highlighting the most relevant output for high level goals rather than on providing a comprehensive detail of all verbal contributions.

• Safety a major concern for residents. Older people feel unsafe at night especially walking. • Drug use and Anti-Social behaviour need to be combatted. • Dereliction affects morale and underpins anti-social behaviour. Possible for many parts of the city to be reimagined, revitalised. • Village are community centres and should be revitalised. • Refugees need to be made feel safe and welcome in our communities. • GAA and other similar organisations are needed to bring communities together, but this is hampered by red tape/bureaucracy. • Better resources, volunteers/staffing/supports for community groups. • Need for more organisations such as Northside for Business which provide opportunities for Local Communities. • New community centres with better facilities such as showers, changing rooms sports halls all constitute a “new shoot.” • There is a lack of rentable space in some communities. • Insurance is hampering community groups. • Buildings owned by Cork City Council need to be upgraded. • Neighbourhood watches could be developed more. • Bring community groups together in an annual conference. • Develop pride in communities. • More men’s sheds. • Have business hubs in community centres. • Community wealth building should be supported. See knowledge of older people as a source of wealth • Protect trees and encourage youth to respect them. • Disparity between North and South a key issue • Make most of built environment, derelict and vacant buildings, natural environment in local communities.
