[Leading Cork to take its place as a World Class City] __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
International Recovery Day International Recovery Day took place on 30 th September 2021 supported again by Cork City Council. Lord Mayor Cllr. Colm Kelleher also sent a message of solidarity to all of those in recovery from addictions helping to de-stigmatise the pathway to recovery and celebrate those who chose it. The City Hall was again illuminated in purple, the colour of recovery, on the evening and as an additional signal of solidarity, hope and the potential of change, the newly refurbished Daly’s Bridge (Shakey Bridge) was also illuminated on the evening. This was hugely appreciated by both the Recovery Academy Cork, who organize the ‘ leave a Light on ’ campaign throughout recovery month (September) and the CLDATF Board.
Bonfire Night ‘Bonfire Night, or St . John’s Night, has typically been marked by Council led Community Events across Cork City. For the second year running, events were scaled down in recognition of Public Health Guidelines, but the community team worked with our colleagues in Youth Services to support small groups of young people to celebrate with refreshments, live music and DJ sets and a visit from Lord Mayor Cllr. Colm Kelleher. We look forward to marking the occasion in style next year again.’ Pride of Place In early October, the judges from Cooperation Ireland visited Cork to carry out adjudication for the Pride of Place Competition. The Community Team had nominated three groups who work in exceptional and innovative ways to improve their community, whether that be a community of interest or a community of geography. These groups were: • Clogheen Kerry Pike Community Association. • Traveller Visibility Group and Cork Traveller Women’s Network . • Cork Migrant Centre Young Person’s Anti Racism Group .
The groups presented their work and represented their communities impeccably and gave the judges a huge amount to think about and engage with.
