Fire Service Robotic firefighting vehicle (the robot!)
Cork City Fire Brigade applied for funding via two sources, the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) Capital Fund and the Public Service Innovation National Innovation Fund, to support the development and purchase of a robotic firefighting vehicle. The full funding of €97,000 was secured and in conjunction with the manufacturer, Newtech ICP of Kilbrittan, Co. Cork, we jointly developed a robotic vehicle that will aid CCFB respond to emergency incidents in a safe and more effective manner.
The specification of the robotic vehicle includes several sensors and equipment such as remote-controlled water monitor, hazardous material sensors and thermal image camera. The intention is to have this world first multi-use device available for emergency incidents in Q2 2022 after it finishes the rigorous trials.
Recruits 2021 We were delighted to welcome a new class of recruits in September 2021. After their initial training they joined their respective watch schedules in December 2021 where they will continue their training and development.
