Sustainable Travel & Road Safety Awareness The Sustainable Travel & Road Safety Awareness section promotes sustainable and active travel through programmes and campaigns, as well as engaging with the relevant transport groups, such as the Cork Transport and Mobility Forum. In terms of road safety, the aim is to promote road safety, particularly to school children, and working with a wide range of stakeholders through the Cork Road Safety Working Together Group.
Road Safety Cork City Council conducted road safety training across primary schools both online and in person. As many of the school children had missed the basics of road safety due to covid, this was an introductory session which gave the children the basics of road safety for several modes of transport. As part of the training the children we asked to design a road safety poster. The winner of the competition was Ben Ohlow of St Fin Barres primary school. This poster was shown on bus shelters all over the City.

Bike Week Bike Week took place successfully with over a hundred events taking place. Cork City Council worked with community groups, schools and cycling organisations to deliver activities. Amongst the activities that took place was the Cycle on the Green bringing bike safety, bike maintenance and bike games into housing estates across the city. Working with Foróige and the Gardai, events were organised in Togher, Westlawn, Bishopstown and the Carrigrohane Road Halting site and were enjoyed by everyone participating.
