The following strategic housing developments were granted permission: -

• Former Ford Distribution Site (Granted 20.04.2021): 1,002 apartments • St. Kevin’s Hospital, Shanakiel (Granted 15.04.2021): 266 residential units • Ardarostig (Granted 6.09.2021): 276 residential units • Kelleher’s Tyres, Victoria Cross (Granted 18.08.2021): 40 stude nt apartments

An additional 9 Strategic Housing Development (SHD) applications were submitted to An Bord Pleanála in 2021. They are progressing through the SHD process and decisions will issue in 2022. Cork City Council participated in the SHD process for these applications at various stages in 2021 by completing pre-planning meetings, tripartite meetings, the preparation and submission of Opinion reports:

• 685 residential units at Greenfields, Ballincollig. • 498 apartments at Jacobs Island North. • 309 units at Kilbarry. • 275 residential units at Ballyhooly Road. • 114 apartments at Redforge Road. • 191 apartments at Hewitt’s Mill . • 97 student apartments at Finbarr Galvin Motors Site. • 162 units at Banduff Road 2. • 123 apartments at Old Fort Road 2.

Enforcement: Whilst Covid-19 continued to impact on the ability of the City Council’s Enforcement Section to actively pursue unauthorised developments during 2021, the Section processed a similar number of cases as the previous year.
