In 2021, with the assistance of funding from the National Transport Authority (NTA), Cork City Council installed 10 parklets in locations in the city centre and suburbs (Wandsworth Quay, Sullivans Quay, Union Quay, Cook St, South Mall, Ballincollig, Douglas, Ballyphehane, Glanmire and Blackpool). The installation of these 10 parklets, in partnership with partners in the local community, has established Cork as a benchmark city for the re-imagining of urban spaces as places, which are pleasant, green and safe.

Tourism As the Covid 19 pandemic continued to impact severely on tourism during 2021, the Tourism section worked closely with other City Council Directorates, and with Fáilte Ireland, Visit Cork and local hospitality and tourism businesses to seek to respond to the challenges facing the sector.
