Pedestrian Safety Intervention Scheme 2020 Cork City Council, with funding from the National Transport Authority, provided pedestrian safety inventions and upgrades at a number of locations across the city. In 2021, works were completed at the following locations: • Dublin Hill. • Rathmore Road. • Ringmahon Road. • Vicars Road.

The main features of the scheme are as follows:

New, upgraded and widened footpaths.

• New controlled and uncontrolled pedestrian crossings including raised table and signalised crossings. • Public lighting upgrade. • New road markings and signage.

The objectives of the schemes are:

• Enhance pedestrian connectivity between settlements, employment hubs, educational facilities, and public transport services. • Improve safety for vulnerable road users and reduce road safety risks. • Provide facilities which will encourage commuters, students and residents to use walking as a mode of transport in each area as an alternative to car-based trips for short journeys.

The schemes commenced in late 2020 and were completed in 2021.

Funding for an extension of the scheme was granted in 2021 and works at a number of further locations commenced in late 2021 and will be completed in 2022. These works will be completed at the following locations: • Alderbrook. • Popham’s Road . • St. Patrick’s Road .
