Victoria Road to MacSwiney Quay Cycle Lanes

Albert Quay

Cork City Council, with funding from the National Transport Authority, provided dedicated outbound and inbound cycle lanes on Terence MacSwiney Quay, Albert Quay and Victoria Road. The main work included traffic signal adjustments, traffic lane adjustments, adjustments to parking, new lining, new signage, installation of edge protection measures and renewal of surfacing as required.

Description of Project Benefits

Key benefits of the scheme include: - • The installation of interim cycle lanes from Parnell Bridge to the Victoria Road Roundabout. • The removal of a lane of traffic from Terence MacSwiney Quay and Albert Quay West. • Reconfiguration of the Traffic Signals at the junctions of Clontarf Bridge and Albert Quay and the junction at the Albert Quay and Eamon De Valera Bridge to allow for cyclists to cross the junctions. • Adjustments to markings and installing new line markings and bollards. • Resurfacing of sections of roadway - western side of Victoria Road, from the roundabout to the Idle Hour pub. • Breaking out of an existing footpath and construction of new footpath – to the N-E of the Victoria Rd roundabout. • Replacing Traffic Signals – At the junction of Eglinton Street and Albert Quay, and Terence MacSwiney Quay and Parnell Bridge.

The works commenced in March 2021 and were substantially complete in July 2021.
