N27 Kinsale Road (Airport Hill)

Cork City Council, with funding from both Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the National Transport Authority undertook infrastructure improvements on the N27 Kinsale Road (Airport Hill) in 2021.

N27 Kinsale Road (After)

The N27 Kinsale Road (Airport Hill) Scheme Phase 1 is approximately 1.65km in length and extends from the N27 Kinsale Road/L2460 Frankfield Road junction towards the N27 Cork Airport Roundabout junction. The scheme comprised of resurfacing of the existing road pavement and provision of road markings. The aim of the various measures is to provide a safe high-quality route with an increased level of service and increased safety for all road users. Phase 1 was substantially complete by late 2021.

Phase 2 of the scheme, due to get underway in 2022, will further improve the infrastructure for both pedestrians and cyclists while maintaining current traffic capacities along the section of the N27 between the Junction with Frankfield Road and the Airport Roundabout, measuring approximately 3 kilometres in distance.

The proposed works shall include the following measures to improve the level of service for active travel road users within the existing road carriageway:

• Improved uphill cycling facilities (on-road segregated uphill cycle lane where feasible). • Improved downhill cycling facilities (on-road segregated downhill cycle lane where feasible). • Footpath improvement works. • Junction improvement works to facilitate pedestrian and cyclist connectivity.
