Innovation Week
Our Chief Executive, Ann Doherty spoke at the national launch of the Our Public Service Innovation Week 2021 which was held between 8 th and 12 th November 2021 and detailed how Cork City Council staff innovated service delivery in the city during the past challenging 18 months. During Innovation Week, Cork City Council held a local programme of events where project leaders displayed their innovative projects undertaken by different departments throughout the Council; sharing what they set out to achieve, how they funded the project, the challenges they faced, the lessons they learned and how to shape future projects. The goal of sharing these presentations was to inspire and encourage innovation throughout the organisation, as set out in our Corporate Plan 2019 - 2024 and share ideas and possible collaborations between different departments. Guest speaker, Elaine Birkett, HSE Organisation Development and Change Practitioner, showcased the people and culture change journey being brought about in the Health Services Executive. The presented projects included the Library’s Innovation in a Pandemic where they have carried out multiple innovative projects including their award-winning Housebound Book delivery service and DEIS school children throughout the pandemic, and the Tory Top Library Sensory Garden. Our Sustainable Transport Officer presented the Cargo Bike Library a project that successfully secured Public Service Innovation Funding (PSIF) from the Department of Expenditure and Public Reform under the Our Public Service Programme. This is a new technology that can dispense water or a foam solution through a remote-controlled monitor, has a tow capacity to move equipment, ability to monitor gas/air or radiation, a colour visual and thermal imaging, ability to climb staircases, has a two-way audio communication system, provides lighting, is self-cooling, self-propelling and can record and relay the inside and outside temperature of the vehicle and relay this information back.
