Streetscape Development: Creating People and Business Friendly Places presentation detailed the interventions made to enhance and extend pedestrian priority in City Centre including the pedestrianisation of 17 streets and new bike parking facilities at 50 locations. Social Enterprises can be a Driver of Innovation in Sustaining Community and Economic Resilience outlined the FOSO-POCO project to understand and assist in overcoming challenges facing social enterprises in Europe; helping businesses improve their understanding of the state-of-play and potential of social entrepreneurship locally by identifying and directly involving relevant stakeholders and the use of best practices and expert involvement to address existing gaps in support available, assist promising social enterprises to pilot, pitch and internationalise their product / services through the networks of the project partners and establish local supports to assist social enterprises in a post-Covid economy aiming to further their viability and job creation prospects. The Biodiversity in Parks & Recreation presentation displaying the innovative work the team have done including providing approximately 100 tiered planters with pollinator-friendly summer annuals across the city, the summer bedding schemes which as of summer 2022 will see 85% of summer bedding made up of pollinator friendly varieties. This is an increase of 55% since 2020. The introduction of new bug hotels. The planting of Herbaceous Perennials, wildflower meadows, more than 500 native Irish trees. Cork City Council was awarded The Green Flag Award recognising our well managed parks and green spaces.

National Innovation Strategy & Network The Public Service Innovation Strategy was developed collectively, involving public servants from a range of different organisations. Its purpose is to embed innovation across our public service to deliver now and to help shape the future, positioning Ireland to become a world leader in public service innovation.

The strategy defines innovation as “the creation of a new, viable offering that adds value.”

A national network was established to enable the sharing of information, collaboration and co-creation across the public service. Public servants are encouraged to join the open networks and attend monthly events online, apply for innovation funding and share learnings.
