Primary responsibilities of Irish Development Officer (Oifigeach Forbartha Gaeilge)
• Coordinating a programme of events for Seachtain na Gaeilge and beyond
Each local authority has a designated member of staff with responsibility for:
• Maintaining a positive working relationship with Oifig an Choimisinéara Teanga (Office of the Language Commissioner) in relation to statutory obligations under the Act and our scheme
• Supporting and encouraging interest in the Irish language among City Council Staff (Irish language training, staff support scheme) • Ensuring Irish language content in related festivals (Heritage Week, Culture Night, Life-Long Learning Festival, Creative Ireland Programmes), incidental translation,
• Responding in a speedy manner to any official complaints from the Commissioner’s office
invitations, commemorative plaques, signage, etc, are incorporated in the delivery of such plans
• Ensuring directorates and departments are aware of their responsibilities under legislation
• Coordinating the work and contribution of An Grúpa Forbartha Gaeilge, a
• Fostering a spirit of bilingualism in the city through support of organisations working in this area. In the case of Cork City Council this would include such organisations as Gael Taca, Gaeilgóirí Cois Laoi, Club Cheoil Baile Feitheán, Acadamh na Gaeilge Chorcaí among others
subcommittee of Cork City Council elected members tasked with the promotion of the Irish language in the actions of Council and in its support of Irish language initiatives
