Cork Lifelong Learning Festival 2024

CORK LEARNING CITY

Lifelong learning is the cornerstone of empowerment, enabling individuals to understand, adapt and shape the world around them. Our rapidly changing world demands that we continue to learn throughout our lives. The Cork Learning Neighbourhoods initiative promotes learning for everyone, at every age, so that people have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills that are needed to actively contribute to establishing fairer, more just and sustainable societies. Cork Learning Neighbourhoods Over the past year, Cork Learning Neighbourhoods have participated in a 'Places of Learning’ photographic campaign to celebrate the learning places and spaces within communities that support and encourage people of all ages to access all forms of learning. Cork photographer, Clare Keogh, has visited the Cork Learning Neighbourhoods over the past months to capture the places of learning that empower our neighbourhoods.

As part of this year's Cork Learning Festival, Ballyphehane Learning Neighbourhood are hosting an event titled 'Art is for All'. The event will take place on the 15th of April and will be held in the Ballyphehane Community Centre. Local organisations, clubs, community groups and schools will come together to celebrate all forms of artistic expression across the Ballyphehane community.

In Autumn 2023, the Knocknaheeny Learning Neighbourhood in partnership with Cork City Partnership hosted a 'Neighbourhood University College' programme. This programme provided a taste of eight further and higher level subjects one morning per week over an eight week period within the community. Lectures from UCC, MTU, and FET colleges contributed to the programme. Subjects included mindfulness, politics, history and more were included in the programme.
