CORK LEARNING CITY

The All Ireland Network of Learning Cities

The Irish Network of Learning Cities is an all-island network for support, inspiration, know-how and sharing good practice, based on the principles of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC). The members of the Network are Limerick, Dublin, Belfast, Derry and Cork to date. In 2021 the Mayors of each of these cities signed the second formal Memorandum of Understanding committing them to work together as Learning Cities for a further five years, to support each other and share information and the Network has grown from strength to strength since then. Progress: Quarterly Meetings The Network has been meeting quarterly, each city hosting in turn, with the next network meeting planned for Cork during Lifelong Learning Festival week. Learning Festivals co-ordinators support and exchange of good practice Festival co-ordinators meet fortnightly since 2020. Each Learning City supports other Learning City’s events each year, by providing guest speakers or presenting case studies. Shared Festival Planning Belfast Festival of Learning was launched with the INLC in March 2020, Dublin will hold their Learning Festival in the same week as the Cork Festival and Derry-Strabane were the first Learning City to host an online Festival in 2020 and will have their first ‘face-to-face’ Festival in late April this year. Shared events are being planned to feature in each festival.
