Strategic & Economic Development Cork City Draft Plan 2022-2028 – Next steps

The preparation of the new Cork City Development Plan 2022-2028 formally commenced in June 2020. This City Development Plan will be the first of a three- plan cycle that will deliver the National Planning Framework’s ambitious vision for Cork City, to be a city of scale that can provide an enhanced range of services to its residents and drive the economy of the southern region. The Draft City Development Plan was published in July 2021 with a public consultation process running from 26th July until 4th October 2021. The next stage in the process is to summarise the issues raised in submissions in the form of a Chief Executive’s Report and to recommend “Proposed Amendments” to the Draft Plan to Council for their consideration. The Chief Executive’s Report was issued to Elected Members on 20 December 2021. This summarised the issues raised in the 449 submissions or observations received on the Draft Plan, including those submitted by the Office of the Planning Regulator, the Board, the Southern Regional Assembly, and the prescribed authorities. Elected Members have up to 12 weeks to consider the Report and the Proposed Amendments recommended to them for their consideration. At the end of this period, Members may, by resolution, amend the Draft Plan by means of Proposed Amendments or adopt the Draft as the new Development Plan. Where a proposed amendment to the plan would be a material alteration, a 4-week public consultation period follows on the proposed material alterations. The Strategic and Economic Development team will be engaging with elected members in January and February 2022 to advance this.
