Tree Planting

Curraheen Walk

Clashduv Park

500 native Irish trees were planted in a number of locations in the city – Clashduv Park , Curraheen Walk , Meelick Park , The Glen River Park , Beaumont Park and Bridevalley Park . Species include Birch , Alder , Oak , Holly and Hazel

Oak Tree Planting

120 Oak whips were planted by parks in conjunction with an initiative by The Lord Mayor.

Greenspine Planting

500 native Irish trees were planted on the green space adjoining Sunvalley Drive., by the HSE Health Action Zone and Youth Work Ireland Cork supported by the City Council.

Approximately 200 trees and ornamental shrubs were planted this year in Ballincollig Regional Park.

SEED BOMB INITIATIVE

The Parks Department purchased 2000 seed bombs which contain native Irish wildflower seeds . These were distributed to a number of community groups to plant in public open spaces across the city , as well as a number of schools. These included : Mount Mercy College , Model Farm Road, Community Garden Shalom Park, St Columbas NS , Douglas, Magazine Road Residents , Deer Park Residents, Shalom Park, Palmbury Orchards Residents Association, Ballyhooly Quarry Community Garden Initiative. We have also worked with IBEC and St. Anthony’s School in Ballinlough to plant wildflower areas in Ballinlough using 1000 seedbombs.

GREEN FLAG AWARD 2021

The Parks Department has submitted two applications for the Green Flag Award for 2021 for Fitzgerald’s Park & Shalom Park

The Green Flag Award scheme recognises well managed parks and green spaces across the UK and the rest of the world.

The Green Flag Award is the benchmark standard for sustainable management of recreational outdoor spaces.

Republic of Ireland received 70 awards in 2020 and only 2 in County Cork for the OPW (Fota & Garnish Island)
