A new grant scheme for hospitality businesses (hotels, restaurants, cafes, public houses etc) has been introduced through the Tourism section. Funded by Failte Ireland the scheme provides grants of up to €4,000 to hospitality businesses to support the costs of outdoor furniture and accessories (tables, chairs, umbrellas, windbreakers etc). Initially limited to establishments which sold food for consumption on the premises the scheme has now been extended to includ e those pubs which don’t serve food. There has been considerable interest in the scheme and the closing date for applications is 30 September 2021 An application has also been submitted to Failte Ireland’s Local Authority Weatherproofing and Outdoor Dining Infrastructure fund. I n parallel with direct grants for hospitality businesses, this capital investment scheme aims to provide support for local authorities to upgrade and enhance streets and public spaces and implement weather proofing solutions which will facilitate year-round outdoor dining in key tourism centres and city centre locations.

Elizabeth Fort

Elizabeth Fort welcomed 1,973 visitors during May, 70% of whom were Irish. There has been a noticeable increase in the number of new locals who moved into the area during lockdown and have become regulars who return frequently with friends. Media coverage following reopening has been strong, with a Reopening feature by the Sicilian Wanderer in the Evening Echo, as well as good feedback and engagement across Social Media. Preparations are underway for a series of events planned to take place in the Fort during the summer.
