Contract for design and installation of up to an additional 6 parklets currently out to tender. Combined total envisages up to 16 Parklets will be installed in partnership with businesses and communities across Cork City under both phases 1 and 2 of the ‘P arklet Partner ’ programme.

Cork City Council Purple Flag ‘ Excellence in the Evening Economy ’ Awarded : Cork City Council Interim Renewal 2021 Application awarded by ATCM in May 2021. The report from the Purple Flag assessors acknowledges the high standard reached bringing Excellence to Cork City’s Night Time Economy. Purple Flag assessors made particular reference to the Re - Imagining Cork programme and efforts to maintain a vibrancy in the City during the Covid pandemic. Cork’s Action Plan for the Cult-CreaTE project on developing cultural and creative tourism (CCT) has been approved by the Interreg Europe programme authorities. Attention will now switch to its implementation phase during which it will build on stakeholder input to date from local Cultural & Creative Industries (CCIs) by means of designing and delivering: a) a LEO business development and mentoring programme focusing on CCT opportunities for local creative sector actors (Autumn/Winter 2021); and, in turn, b) a co- created ‘pop - up’ festival of creativity (Spring 2022) which is intended as a trial measure in relat ion to addressing a longer- term objective for the planning and development of a dedicated city centre ‘creativity hub’ facility. Green City Accord. Relevant staff in Operations and Strategic & Economic Development are investigating the feasibility, in terms of performance monitoring indicators, of Cork signing up to the European Commission’s Green City Accord . This is a high-profile political pledge by urban authorities to take local action to safeguard the natural environment across 5 policy areas – air, water, nature/biodiversity, circularity/waste, and noise – in order to (at a minimum) not fall below the minimum requirements set by EU legislation by 2030. Cork City Industry Survey . Cork City Council will shortly be embarking on a stratified sample survey of over 300 businesses in the Cork City area to establish the overall commercial confidence and trading patterns in the region. The survey is being undertaken against the backdrop of the two significant current disruptive and ongoing impacts of Covid19 and Brexit. The engagement will be of critical assistance in informing the inclusion of policies and actions by City Council and other key city stakeholders and the economic strategy in the City Development Plan. An internationally recognised market research company, Behaviour and Attitudes Ltd., have been engaged to conduct the survey on Cork City Council’s behalf. The study is being undertaken with assistance from IDA, Enterprise Ireland, IBEC, Cork Chamber of Commerce and Cork Business Association. Cork China Business Summit : Asia Matters successfully hosted the 7 th Virtual Cork Business Summit on China Ireland Business Partnership in the Post Covid World Economy which focussed on the themes of Global economy, Education & Innovation and digitalisation, Agritech and Tourism. The event was addressed by the Lord Mayor and was held virtually over two days with many expert contributors from the various sectors and also from our sister and partner cities in China with a good Chinese virtual audience which has helped significantly in maintaining our Chinese relationships in these covid times. The Chief Executive Ann Doherty sat on a panel on Cities and Regions with a contributions also from Dr. Sha Hailin, President of Shanghai CPAFFC and former Chinese Ambassador to Ireland and Zhuang Jun , Head of Industry Innovation Research Office, Shanghai Institute for Science of Sciences.
