Purple Flag
The official ceremony to mark the awarding of the Purple Flag to Cork City for Excellence in the Night Time Economy was held with the Lord Mayor Cllr. Joe Kavanagh and members of the Purple Flag Steering Group. Following detailed assessment, this is the third consecutive occasion that Cork has retained full accreditation and received the Purple Flag. The Lord Mayor has also joined the National Forum with a view to developing a national strategy on the night time economy which is due to report next year.
Tourism - Elizabeth Fort Improvements
Works have just been completed on some of the heritage buildings in the Fort. These included ground improvements to allow full circulation of the Fort and the reroofing of one of the buildings where Cork Convention Bureau and Visit Cork are located. New signage was also installed at the entrance.
Asia Matters Virtual Summit
Like many events supported by City Council, The Cork Business Summit, hosted by Asia Matters and supported by City Council was held virtually this year and covered the themes of Agritech, Tourism, Post Covid recovery, digitalisation and education and opportunities between Cork, Ireland and China. The summit was introduced by the Lord Mayor and the Chief Executive joined a panel on Tourism.
