Cork St. Patrick’s Festival
Following the developing situation with COVID 19 in February, a risk assessment was conducted based on WHO guidelines and the safety of the event taking place. Based on the assessment, it was decided to cancel the parade and an announcement was made regarding the same on March 9 th . The Government subsequently announced a national cancellation of parades throughout the country. EMD and Seafest While the planning for EMD 2020 and SeaFest was at advance levels, the developing situation with COVID- 19 was monitored from late February into March about possible impact. Following consultation with the National Government and Cork City Council, the European Commission decided to postpone EMD 2020 and investigate alternative dates later in the year. Separately National Government, in consultation with Cork City Council, decided to cancel SeaFest 2020. Join announcements regarding both events were made on March 19 th . Discussions are ongoing regarding the possibility of rescheduling EMD 2020 at a later date. Creative Ireland The budget has been allocated and the Creative Team are working on rolling out the projects and making changes to reflect the Covid 19 restrictions. Criunniu na nOg is designated for 13 th June 2020. Cruinniu na nÓg will now be an online offering and the Arts Office is working with the groups involved. City of Sanctuary General Cork City of Sanctuary Initiatives Residents Forum (proposed) – consultative process to improve communications with residents in Direct Provision Sanctuary Mask Initiative – mask stitching project for use of people living in Direct Provision without access to PPE. Graphic Design for same produced by youth mentored by Cork Printmakers as per Arts and Culture Working Group Action Plan 2018-2020 supported by Creative Ireland funding Laptops for Lockdown – providing laptops to people living in Direct Provision to access information, resources and communicate Connect Call – launch of a dedicated number for people living in Direct Provision managed by Cork Migrant Centre and facilitated by the CCC call line. This call line is providing access to multi-lingual psychosocial supports. Line operators have been Garda Vetted and trained. Follow up letter to Lord Mayor and Council regarding action on Direct Provision through COVID19 crisis and beyond.
