6.2.6 Cork Chamber of Commerce

This submission states its support for Energy security, sustainability, and the deployment of renewable energy as key to enable Cork City to take climate action and provide a resilient and affordable clean energy supply and attract FDI. It calls for a strong commitment to a Just Transition towards carbon neutrality without which it states, “real progress will not be made and those not considered will remain disadvantaged from a socio-economic perspective, risking Cork’s reputation for talent and investment.” It calls for climate justice to be integrated and considered throughout all actions. The submission further calls for. • Integrating the Net Zero Cities Sprint taskforce (set up to tackled decarbonisation of commercial buildings) to be integrated into the LECP and Climate Action Plan. • Provision of skills and training to meet climate action requirements. • Provision of “permeable and shaded surface which are stated as “key to climate adaptation.” • Cork to have a strong voice in the development of the National Industrial Strategy for Offshore Wind • Support for wind energy sector to underpin supply of significant office space built up around this source of energy. • Activation of waterfronts and sustainable environmentally sensitive places to unite nature, people, and the city. This submission notes the high importance of promoting circular economy awareness and waste management in communities such as Knocknaheeny were waste is a key issue.
