Appendix 6 High Level Goal 6: Leading on Sustainability and Climate Action

Submission source Summary of Issue Raised relevant to this High-Level Goal

Acquisition of land for green space and improvements in the quality of existing green space networks beyond their traditional role as recreational areas should be prioritised. Secure land for the provision of community gardens with support by dedicated personnel and appropriate funding. Partnerships with other agencies such as schools, community gardens, GIY groups, recycling and sustainability groups, and Cork City Council would engage community-based knowledge, as well as support. Support local food sovereignty, community led environmental action and biodiversity at local level by proactively supporting the development of community gardens. To support the implementation of the Climate Action Plan, identify the health impacts of climate change and develop an interagency health and climate action group to integrate actions for public health and climate change. Support Cork Food Policy Council in the development of a comprehensive interagency food strategy that seeks to create a healthy, sustainable, and resilient food system in Cork ensuring access by all citizens to a quality, nutritious and balanced diet. Use acquired local knowledge and experience to inform and influence action in key national and international processes that guide policy and resources for work on climate change. Link health to carbon reduction plans. Conduct a baseline health and emissions inventory, adopt an emissions reduction target, develop, and implement local action plans. Develop a strategy to support the development of the river Lee as a recreational and play space in the city.
