High Level Goal 2 – Partnership, Inclusion and Equality

2.3 Face to Face consultations In high level and summary form, feedback from face-to-face workshops with those stakeholders relevant to this consultation is provided below. Because feedback was oral rather than written, the emphasis is placed on highlighting the most relevant output for high level goals rather than on providing a comprehensive detail of all verbal contributions.

• Address disparity of opportunity and inclusion between northside and southside • Introduce more workplace democracy. • Cork to become a leader in positive integration. • Revitalise villages within city and create a city of neighbourhoods along model of the 15-minute city. • Calls for increased mental health supports. • Support for equal opportunities for all regardless of race, colour, and ethnicity. • Measures to tackle misinformation around refugees and immigrants – Cork City Council should work closer with local businesses to combat hate and anti-social behaviour. • The GAA, Northside for Business and other voluntary organisations were cited as examples of organisations that can promote inclusion, but it was noted “red tape” is reducing their effectiveness. • Improve links and collaboration between Community Associations (CAs) and City Council • Support CAs by promoting sustainable funding, volunteering, governance, management, training succession planning and greater inter-group collaboration (a “buddy up” system). Amalgamate community Association buildings. • Promote northside. Improve attractiveness of city by better accessibility • Create more green spaces in the city. • Create more spaces and community facilities, for young people. • Protect vulnerable projects. • A specific idea included a funding page on the city council website. Another was simplifying the charities code. • Promote better childcare provision. • Promote more and new community and youth centres and community infrastructure. • Develop pride in Cork communities and local history. • Involve new Irish more in city life. • Promote volunteerism and community engagement in schools. • Promote social enterprise cafés. • Make CAs and community centres ‘local hubs’ and ‘one-stop-shops’ for delivery of local services and activities.
