High Level Goal 3 – A City of Learning and Culture

Cork is a UNESCO Award winning “Learning City” since 2015 and one of the first 12 cities in the world selected for this award and was a founder member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2013. So, this submission is of great significance and is implemented in partnership between Cork City Council, Cork Educational and Training Board (ETB), Munster Technological University (MTU) and University College Cork (UCC). Its recommendations are summarised as follows under key headings. Cork Access Network • Develop a strategic plan to maintain strong relationships with industry, business, and DSP. • Keep access for under-represented groups to Lifelong Learning as central focus of our work. • Comprehensively document all CAN work/archive past events, preserving history of initiative. • Establish county-wide Network, uniting and strengthening educational community in the region. Communications • Develop, review, and implement Cork Learning City media strategy. • Strengthen communications links with partner organisations (CCC, UCC, ACE, MTU, HSE Chamber). • Maintain and update CLC’s suite of social media channels. • Incorporate use of existing internal monthly reports as a source of regular communications e.g. with UNESCO Institute of Lifelong Learning, local and national media outlets. • Further develop good relationship current media partners including EchoLive.ie • Secure resources to appoint new coordinator for CAN. • Ensure representation from underrepresented groups. • Continue to incorporate learner stories into Cork Access Network events.
• Use variety of interviews on local radio stations to promote lifelong learning & learner stories. • Where possible use new communication tools e.g. video, podcasts to promote Cork Learning City
