This submission’s recommendations relevant to this High-Level Goal are as follows: 1. Invest in and develop Cork City’s communications, transport, and enterprise infrastructure to support economic growth. • Leisure & Recreation facilities are an important part of a city infrastructure. • L eisure & Recreational facilities stimulate movement of the public, generate economic activity across customers, suppliers & employees. 2. S upport Cork City’s innovative ecosystem to develop new ideas, concepts, products, and processes to contribute to sustainable economic growth. 3. C ontinue to work with other key enterprise stakeholders to create an enterprise-friendly ecosystem that supports Cork City’s entrepreneurs, SMEs, and social enterprises through all stages of development. 4. C ontinue to work with key city stakeholders to attract and retain Foreign Direct Investment in Cork City • Leisure & Recreation facilities is a key factor in FDI, employee lifestyle & access to leisure & recreation facilities is important for employee health & wellbeing. 5. Develop and expand Cork City’s tourism industry to support jobs and economic opportunities. • Leisure & Recreation can be a driver of tourism and is an expectation of tourist experience for many. • S mall sports events/competition, leisure activities such as cycling, swimming, running, weightlifting can all drive small scale internal & external tourism. 6. D evelop the skills base in Cork City to ensure there is an adequate supply of skills available to support economic and enterprise growth. This submission makes one proposal in relation to High Level Goal, namely: • To continue to work with other key enterprise stakeholders to create and enterprise friendly ecosystem that supports Cork City’s entrepreneurs, food producers and growers, SMEs, and social enterprises through all stages of development. If furthermore makes a recommendation that, while pertaining to High Level Goal 6, should perhaps also be noted in this chapter: • Amend objective 6.1 (High Level Goal 6) to read (amended part in bold italicised text): “Ensure our city, communities, food system and infrastructure is sustainable, resilient and adaptive to a changing climate”. • Consider the inclusion of the following objectives: • “Prioritising the development of a comprehensive interagency food strategy that seeks to create a healthy, sustainable, and resilient food system in Cork ensuring access by all citizens to a quality, nutritious and balanced diet. This strategy should also have to the fore consideration to address food poverty in the city. The Cork Food Policy Council in collaboration with the School of Public Health, UCC is in a position to support this action.”
