Appendix 8_Consultation Report

Appendix 4 High Level Goal 4 – Economic Enterprise and Development

4.3 Face to Face consultations In high level and summary form, feedback from face-to-face workshops with those stakeholders relevant to this consultation is provided below. Because feedback was oral rather than written, the emphasis is placed on highlighting the most relevant output for high level goals rather than on providing a comprehensive detail of all verbal contributions.

Submission source Summary of Issue Raised relevant to this High-Level Goal 4.3.1 Councillors Consultation 28th June 2023

The feedback from this consultation was mainly focused on High Level Goals 1,2,3, 5 and 6 but some insights were relevant to High Level Goal 4, namely: • The cost of insurance – identified mainly from the point of view of community groups – is also valid for small and social enterprises. • Proposals to create more workplace democracy and staff involvement could enhance the attractiveness of Cork for needed talent. • Proposals to enable migrants to translate their qualifications into the Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) are highly relevant to helping address the skills and labour shortage. • Proposals for Cork City council to work with businesses to combat hate and anti-social behaviour can positively impact Cork’s reputation for inward investment, the attraction and retention of talent and for Cork’s international tourism brand. • Ensuring equality of economic opportunity regardless of race, colour, and ethnicity. • The issue of safety needs to be tackled. • The proposal to reimagine parts of the city and to revitalise villages and create a 15-minute city and the proposal to tackle dereliction were relevant to maximising the city’s economic potential through increasing areas of desirable location for housing and to spreading the benefits of tourism more widely across the city. • The proposal to support integration of migrants could have a positive impact in relation to labour supply and skills shortage. The Economic consultation on May 19th encompassed recommendations on all of the High-Level Goals, but was mainly focused on High Level Goal 4 in relation to which (its other proposals are covered in other chapters) its key proposals were as follows (these are grouped as far as possible into themes of related topics 7 ): Housing & Dereliction • A strong consensus on the urgency of the housing situation in Cork City and its intrinsic impact on all efforts of the LECP

4.3.2 Economic Consultation on May 19th 2023

• The LECP research should share this consensus with relevant bodies to add weight to the concern. • The LECP should promote resource allocation to tackling dereliction and use CPOs to do so. • The skills and talent shortage should be connected to the housing crisis. Skills, Education, and training

7 This is a suggested grouping by the consultant to make the results clearer in terms of their use in shaping actions.
