The most relevant parts of this submission to this High-Level Goal are Housing, Sustainable Public Transport, Road Infrastructure, Cork City Culture and Community. Its main recommendations under these headings are as follows: Housing • LECP should set out goals to achieve the following: o High quality affordable and sustainable housing by reducing obstacles to new housing. o More utilisation of vacant spaces and promotion of above the shop living Sustainable Public Transport • Delivery of a Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy including o electrification of Cork’s rail networks o expansion of suburban rail to East and North of the City o Co-design of Bus Connects o D evelopment of light rail transit system between city centre, Cork’s Universities, Ceannt Station the Docklands and Cork airport. Road Infrastructure • Delivery of M28 to open docklands up housing development Cork City Culture and Community Apart from the aforementioned travel related objectives, recommendations in this area are broken down into ‘Design and Placemaking’, ‘Accessibility’, ‘Social Inclusion’ and ‘Civic Participation and Employment’ and are summarised below: Design and placemaking. o the inclusion of more street furniture o the inclusion of age friendly parking spaces o Removal of barriers to the use of outdoor spaces; footpath maintenance. Address physical hazards i.e., potholes etc.
