Appendix 5 High Level Goal 5: Safe, Accessible and Resilient Neighbourhoods

Submission source Summary of Issue Raised relevant to this High-Level Goal 5.2.7 Cork Access Group

• Ensure equal opportunity to participate in cultural life, recreation, leisure, and sport for people with disabilities in line with Article 30 of UN Committee on Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD).

5.2.8 Cork Media Hub

Welcomes focus of LECP on empowering people and enabling them to get involved with their communities.

5.2.9 Cork Equal and Sustainable Communities Alliance (CESCA)

The most relevant section of CESCA’s submission to this High-Level Goal is “Neighbourhoods and Communities.” CESCA • Welcomes focus in LECP on empowering people and communities to engage in communities. • Expresses support and appreciation for various initiatives including Learning Neighbourhoods, Cork Healthy Cities, Cork Food Policy, Cork Environmental Forum, and Green Spaces for Health to name but a few. • Supportively references the focus in the City Development Plan on the inclusion of Community Hubs and shared spaces that could be used by communities and community organisations as a focal point for support and connection and calls for these to be “similarly embedded” into the LECP and actioned. • Calls for community Hubs to become a central focus of our local neighbourhoods and communities, offering the potential for combining a range of services and sustainable initiatives together. This would “assist greatly in enabling people to feel connected and supported within their locality again and would bring a sense of place and pride that is a precursor for any action on change, climate change or social justice”. • Supports access to green and public spaces, community gardens, suitable housing, community facilities and the availability of education and healthcare supports to meet the needs of a community.
