Objective 5.3 Promote local actions for the preservation and development of built and natural heritage. Consider the inclusion of: Seek to plan age friendly city, neighbourhoods, towns, and hinterland. Support local communities to be proactive in the development and maintenance of public spaces. Provide access to quality parks and public open spaces. Enhance community participation using a Placemaking model of implementation to work across sectors and with the people of Cork City Ensure safe access for all, including older people, people with mixed abilities and parents with small. children and buggies, to the shared public realm, green spaces, and community recreation spaces Reduce vehicular speeds and implement traffic calming measures in city and town centres. Favour a ‘Tactical Urbanism’ approach of temporary, low-cost measures such as planters, greenery and paint instead of ‘engineering solutions’ such as cones, yellow lines, and road signs. Install Park & Ride and Park & Stride locations along busy routes. Ensure street lighting is regularly maintained using optimal LED blue light range for biodiversity. Support communities to be involved in crime prevention and safety programs. This submission’s recommendations relevant to this High-Level Goal are as follows: • Develop and support the structures and partnerships which underpin safety and wellbeing in our city. • Public Leisure & Recreation facilities offer managed, supervised facilities, with trained staff that can: • Increase safety – First aid, well-lit indoor spaces, presence. • Wellbeing – a place or space for people to meet/visit. • A Placemaking approach will be taken to programme, policy, and planning in Cork City Council. • Promote local actions for built and natural heritage. • Promote partnership approaches to accessibility and services. • Support and champion the resilience of community organisations and structures.
