Foundation of the Cork City Irish Language Plan – (Relevant Policy Fields)
This plan is guided by policies and values that respect people’s right to protect, promote and sustain their native tongue. These values recognise clearly the cultural, artistic, linguistic, educational, societal, community and economic benefits that flow from our language. An Ghaeilge has shaped and sustained our national identity, our sense of ourselves, our society and offers links to our diaspora that maintain their heritage and identity despite being away from home. The plan also understands the value of the language to inclusion and integration in our now diverse city. Policy alignment is key to harnessing the dynamic integration of the language into the lived experiences of using Gaeilge across the city in multiple settings supported by quality inter-agencies and the community and voluntary sector.
