High Level Goal 1 – Health and Well Being

1.3 Face to Face consultations In high level and summary form, feedback from face-to-face workshops with those stakeholders relevant to this consultation is provided below. Because feedback was oral rather than written, the emphasis is placed on highlighting the most relevant output for high level goals rather than on providing a comprehensive detail of all verbal contributions.

Summary of Issue Raised relevant to this High-Level Goal

1.3.1 Community Associations consultation 23 May

This consultation called for greater access to and awareness of the availability of healthcare services in local communities. It also advocates recognition of the link between individual health and community health: “without individual health and wellbeing, the community cannot be healthy”.

1.3.2 Consultation of Disabled People/People with a disability. 13 June

This consultation called for. -

Recognition of Cork’s success in winning the “Inclusion for All” award Suggestion of a target of “An Accessible Inclusive City for all” by 2040

- Employment of officers in all departments of Cork City Council catering for Disabled People/People with a disability. - Provision of a “Directory of Services” - Improve accessibility of sports and leisure facilities to those with disabilities - Reduced waiting times for health and other public services - Better pedestrian access to Cork University Hospital - A public campaign around awareness of issues facing Disabled People/People with a disability. - Better funding for mental health services - Drop-in mental health services. - Greater collaboration between mental and physical healthcare provision - A discretionary medical care for people for counselling and mental health support - Greater accessibility for wheelchair users to public and community facilities - Earlier intervention (e.g. autism) assessments and a “prevention is better than cure” approach. - The inclusion of Disabled People/People with a disability.in governance and decision making - Create initiatives that teach empathy and understanding for children in primary school: ETB. - Promotes parenting support groups for parents of Disabled Children/Children with a disability: HSE / TUSLA - There needs to be more inclusion of people with ID; singing for the brain was referenced as a great example.
