High Level Goal 2 – Partnership, Inclusion and Equality

Submission source Summary of Issue Raised relevant to this High-Level Goal 2.2.7 Gay Project CLG & LGBTI+ Interagency Network Key proposals from the LGBTI+ Interagency Network are as follows:

• Continued collaboration in promotion of inclusion for LGBTI+ inhabitants across the city in LGBTI+ awareness week and Cork Pride. This could be evaluated through survey or focus groups over the next LECP to monitor progress to assess whether efforts need to be reviewed or goals amended. • Complement national efforts to combat hate crime with action by public services in Cork to prevent harassment of staff and community members. To that end provide mandatory training and support to deal with harassment and intimidation in public spaces and put protocols in place to ensure safety of staff and public at public events. • Cork City Council should conduct a needs assessment in terms of older LGBTI+ people in terms of housing and explore the feasibility of a Tonic Housing model. • All public buildings should have one single occupancy gender neutral bathroom. • All public service staff should receive some mandatory training in relation to LGBTI+ inclusion. • Key proposals from the Gay Project CLG are as follows: • To make Cork a safe, inclusive, and equal city with a particular emphasis on the inclusion of LGBTI+ and gbtMSM men • To provide personal safety, access to healthcare and support services and safe spaces through interagency and collaborative working • To ensure the LECP incorporates learning and best practices in the “Rainbow Cities in Action” guidelines published in May 2023 and to have a dedicated building where all groups in the LGBTI+ community can enjoy secure permanent facilities. • To ensure a visible indication of LGBTI+ inclusion in public buildings with at least one single occupancy gender neutral bathroom • To ensure safety of public service staff and members of all vulnerable communities against harassment in public spaces • To assess the needs of older LGBTI+ people in terms of housing and explore the feasibility of a Tonic Housing Model in Cork city.
