Submission source Summary of Issue Raised relevant to this High-Level Goal 2.2.16 Cork Spina Bifida Association Key submissions in this proposal are as follows. • Promote Cork as a city welcoming to people with disabilities. • Increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities. • Meet the housing needs of Disabled People/People with a disability.
• Appoint a full-time officer for Cork City Council to engage with disabled People/People with a disability. • Ensure equal access to pubs, restaurants, public buildings, and on-street dining areas in public realm. • Audit accessibility of footpaths, traffic lights and improve parking and access to toilets This submission’s key proposals are. • That the needs of people with disabilities and their families be prioritised to make independent living and social inclusion a reality. • That the LECP give “due strategic regard to the legislation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) as ratified in Ireland in 2018 and to the Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty (section 42 of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Act 2014) • That the LECP gives due strategic regard to the Irish Sign Language Act (2017 – commencement order 2020) and that the LECP consider using the Articles of the UN CRPD as a “toolkit” for local implementation to ensure the full and equal inclusion of people with disabilities.
