Appendix 4 High Level Goal 4 – Economic Enterprise and Development
Submission source Summary of Issue Raised relevant to this High-Level Goal Integration, attraction, and retention of talent
• Inclusion programmes can help integrate the 15% of the population coming from other countries into a welcoming, multi-ethnic city and city economy. • Access to the highest level of fibre broadband and to sustainable, active transport systems, can help to welcome new talent and retain existing talent. • Ties between the business community and internationally recognised universities and research institutes should be nurtured. Sustainable Public Transport: • A decarbonised economy requires the accelerated delivery of the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy and the electrification of Cork’s rail network, and expanding suburban rail to the East and North of the City and the co-design of Bus Connects. • To this end the LECP should promote a plan to secure and enable investment of €300 million in enabling infrastructure. Road infrastructure: • The delivery of the M28 is of “crucial importance” to open up the Docklands for housing development and to enable the Pork of Cork to move operations completely to Ring skiddy. Tourism: • The LECP must put the tourist agenda at its heart and iconic attractions in the city promoted along with new tourism offerings such as water activities, development of the anticipated Events centre and the embedding of sustainability into the city’s tourism brand (e.g. through provision of electric vehicles for rental to tourists)
